Privacy Policy — Wakey: Keep Screen On
Last Updated: 26-Jun-2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Kanetik ("we", "us", "our") handles information in Wakey: Keep Screen On. We value your privacy and are committed to transparency about our data practices.
What Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Support requests: If you contact us through the in-app "Help" feature, you provide your email address and a message so we can respond. Support requests are processed through Doorbell.io and routed to us via email. These requests include your Support ID and device and app diagnostic information to help us troubleshoot your issue.
- Diagnostic logs: When submitting feedback, you may choose to upload diagnostic log files. If you opt in, logs are uploaded to Firebase Storage and may include app decision logs, event data, and installed application names and package names for users of the AppWake feature. Uploaded logs are associated with your Support ID.
Information Collected Automatically
- Support ID: A randomly generated unique identifier (UUID) created the first time you use the app. It is used to link support requests and diagnostic logs to your device. The Support ID is stored locally and is included in feedback submissions and log uploads.
- Analytics and crash data: We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand app usage patterns and identify crashes. These services collect standard device and usage information as described in Google's privacy policy. Your Support ID is set as the Crashlytics user identifier to help us correlate crash reports with support requests. You can disable analytics collection in the app's settings.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): Used to deliver push notifications. Firebase collects a device token for this purpose. The FCM token may also be included in support requests submitted in license recovery mode.
- Firebase Remote Config: Used to manage feature flags and app configuration. Standard device metadata is sent as part of configuration requests.
- Firebase App Check: Used to verify that requests to our backend services come from our genuine app. This uses Google Play Integrity to generate attestation tokens.
- Firebase Authentication: Anonymous authentication is used when uploading diagnostic logs, solely to secure access to our Firebase Storage. No personal account or sign-in is required.
Advertising
Wakey displays ads to non-premium users. We use the following advertising services:
- Google Mobile Ads SDK: Serves banner advertisements. This SDK may collect device information, ad interaction data, and advertising identifiers as described in Google's privacy policy.
- Unity Ads: Serves video advertisements through Google mediation. Unity Ads may collect device and ad interaction data as described in Unity's privacy policy.
- Google User Messaging Platform (UMP): Manages advertising consent for users in regions that require it (e.g., the EEA under GDPR). You can review or change your ad privacy choices at any time through the consent form accessible in the app's settings.
Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to our servers:
- App settings and preferences: Your display preferences, automation settings, brightness mode, timeout configuration, and notification preferences.
- Installed app list: If you use the AppWake feature, the app stores a list of installed applications (package names and app names) in a local database so you can select which apps trigger screen wake. This data is not transmitted unless you opt in to uploading diagnostic logs.
- Bluetooth device data: If you use the BtWake feature, the app stores information about paired Bluetooth devices in a local database, including device name, MAC address, device type, and connection timestamps. Devices not seen for 7 days are automatically removed.
- Purchase status: Your premium purchase status and associated order information from Google Play are stored locally to verify your subscription.
Device Permissions
Wakey requests several device permissions to provide its core functionality. Each permission is only used for the purpose described:
- Accessibility Service: Monitors which app is in the foreground to enable the AppWake feature. No other accessibility data is collected or stored.
- Usage Stats: Used as an alternative to the Accessibility Service to detect the foreground app for AppWake.
- Modify System Settings: Adjusts screen brightness and sleep timeout as part of Wakey's core screen-wake functionality.
- Display Over Other Apps: Shows an overlay window when Reliability Mode is enabled.
- Bluetooth: Detects Bluetooth device connections to enable the BtWake feature.
- Notifications: Displays status notifications when Wakey or its automations are active.
Sensor Data
- Accelerometer: If you use the SmartWake feature, the app reads the device's accelerometer to detect motion and determine whether the device is being held or is stationary. Motion state is processed entirely on-device in real time and is never stored or transmitted.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide and maintain Wakey's core screen-wake functionality and automations
- Respond to your support requests
- Identify and fix crashes and bugs
- Understand general usage patterns to improve the app
- Display advertisements to non-premium users
- Deliver notifications about Wakey's active status
Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We disclose it to third parties only in the circumstances described below (note that some advertising disclosure qualifies as "sharing" under the California CPRA — see that section):
- Service providers: We use the following third-party services that process data on our behalf:
- Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging, Remote Config, Storage, Authentication, App Check) — Google Privacy Policy
- Doorbell.io (support requests) — processes the email, message, and device information you provide when submitting feedback
- Google Play Billing (in-app purchases) — processes purchase transactions for premium upgrades
- Advertising partners: Google Mobile Ads and Unity Ads receive advertising data to serve ads to non-premium users — Google Privacy Policy, Unity Privacy Policy. These are advertising partners, not service providers acting on our behalf; for California residents this disclosure is "sharing" under the CPRA (see below).
- Legal requirements: We comply with valid legal requests from law enforcement authorities and will provide information we are obligated to under law.
Note for California residents: although we do not sell your personal information, the advertising data disclosed to Google Mobile Ads and Unity Ads for personalized ads is treated as "sharing" under the CPRA rather than as service-provider-only processing — see "California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)" below for what is shared and how to opt out.
Third-Party Automation
Wakey supports integration with automation apps such as Tasker. This integration allows external apps to enable or disable Wakey and set brightness mode. No personal data, app lists, Bluetooth device information, or other sensitive data is exposed through this integration.
Data Backup
Wakey has Android cloud backup disabled. Your app data is not included in Android's standard cloud backup to your Google account. If you uninstall and reinstall the app or switch devices, your settings and preferences will need to be reconfigured.
Data Retention and Deletion
- Local data (settings, app list, Bluetooth devices, purchase status) is retained on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app data.
- Bluetooth device data for devices not seen in 7 days is automatically removed.
- Diagnostic logs uploaded to Firebase Storage are retained for troubleshooting purposes and deleted when no longer needed.
- Support request data is retained as long as necessary to resolve your request and may be kept for reference.
- Analytics and crash data is retained according to Firebase's standard retention policies.
You can delete all locally stored data at any time by clearing the app's data in Android Settings or by uninstalling the app. To request deletion of any data we may hold externally (such as support request history or uploaded logs), contact us at privacy@kanetik.com or use the in-app "Help" feature.
Your Choices
- Analytics: You can disable Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics collection in Wakey's settings.
- Advertising consent: In regions where consent is required, you can manage your ad privacy preferences through the consent form in the app's settings.
- Diagnostic logs: Log uploads are always opt-in. You choose whether to upload logs when submitting feedback.
- Permissions: You can revoke any permission at any time through Android Settings. Revoking a permission will disable the feature that depends on it.
Security
We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information:
- All network communication uses HTTPS
- Log uploads are secured through Firebase Authentication and App Check
- Premium purchase data is protected with integrity verification
Children's Privacy
Wakey is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@kanetik.com and we will delete it promptly.
Data Breach Notification
In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users as promptly as practicable and take steps to mitigate any harm.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct any inaccurate information
- Delete your personal data (see Data Retention and Deletion above)
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@kanetik.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Data Controller and Privacy Contact
Kanetik is the data controller responsible for the personal information described in this policy. We have not appointed a statutory Data Protection Officer; privacy@kanetik.com is the designated point of contact for all data-protection inquiries and requests.
Legal Bases for Processing (EEA & UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR to process your personal data:
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to provide, maintain, secure, and diagnose Wakey's core screen-wake functionality, to fix crashes, to understand usage through analytics (which you can disable in the app's settings), and to display non-personalized (contextual) advertising to non-premium users.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — where you opt in to personalized advertising (managed through the Google UMP consent form), which you can change at any time in the app's settings; and where you choose, per submission, to upload diagnostic logs, which you withdraw by declining future uploads and can have deleted by contacting privacy@kanetik.com.
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to process Premium purchases through Google Play Billing.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — to comply with valid legal requests.
In addition to the rights listed under "Your Rights" above, EEA and UK users have the right to restrict or object to processing, the right to data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — your national data-protection authority in the EEA, or the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the United Kingdom.
California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and the categories of third parties with whom we share it; to access, delete, and correct that information; and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.
The complete set of data Wakey collects is described under "What Information We Collect" above. The full list of CCPA/CPRA categories of personal information collected in the preceding 12 months, and how each is shared, is as follows. Here "shared" means CPRA "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising; a category not marked "shared" is not sold or shared in that sense, though — as the entries note — it may still be disclosed to our service providers to operate and support the app:
- Identifiers (advertising ID, Support ID, FCM token, and — if you use BtWake — the locally stored Bluetooth device identifiers such as MAC addresses) — the advertising ID is shared with our advertising partners, Google (Google Mobile Ads) and Unity (Unity Ads), for cross-context behavioral advertising; the Support ID and FCM token are disclosed only to our service providers (Firebase, Doorbell.io) to provide and support the app; the Bluetooth identifiers stay on your device and are neither sold nor shared.
- Internet or other network activity (ad interaction data such as impressions and clicks, approximate/coarse device and network information) — shared with Google and Unity for advertising.
- Device and diagnostic data (crash logs, diagnostic events, and — only if you opt in when submitting feedback — uploaded diagnostic logs, which may include app decision logs, event data, and installed application names and package names for AppWake users) — disclosed to our service providers (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Firebase Storage) to fix bugs and improve the app; not shared for advertising.
- Customer records (the email address and message content you provide if you use the in-app Help feature) — disclosed only to our support processor, Doorbell.io, to respond to your request; not shared for advertising.
- Commercial information (your premium purchase status and associated Google Play order information) — processed by Google Play Billing to complete and verify your purchase; not shared for advertising.
The business or commercial purpose of this sharing is to fund the free version of the app through advertising and to operate, secure, and support it. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not knowingly engage in any other "sale" of personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA. However, because Wakey serves third-party advertising (Google Mobile Ads and Unity Ads), the disclosure of identifiers and ad-interaction data for cross-context behavioral advertising is treated as "sharing" under the CPRA. To opt out of this sharing, you can:
- Decline or withdraw advertising consent through the consent form in Wakey's settings (in regions where it is shown); or
- Reset or delete your advertising ID, or enable "Opt out of Ads Personalization," in your device's Android ad/privacy settings (the exact location varies by device and Android version); or
- Email privacy@kanetik.com.
Because Wakey is a mobile app rather than a browser, it does not receive browser-based opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control (GPC); on Android, the device-level "Opt out of Ads Personalization" / advertising-ID controls above are the equivalent opt-out mechanism, and we honor them. You may use an authorized agent to submit requests, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Virginia and Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
If you are a resident of a U.S. state with a comprehensive consumer-privacy law — including Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Oregon, Texas, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Tennessee — you may confirm whether we process your personal data; access, correct, and delete it; obtain a portable copy; and opt out of targeted advertising and any sale of personal data. Residents of states with narrower-threshold laws, such as the Florida Digital Bill of Rights, have the same rights where those laws apply to us. These rights apply to residents of any such state to the extent its law is in effect. To exercise these rights — or to appeal our decision if we decline a request — contact privacy@kanetik.com, and we will respond as required by the applicable state law.
Brazil Privacy Rights (LGPD)
If you are in Brazil, the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) gives you the right to confirm the existence of processing; access your data; correct incomplete or inaccurate data; anonymize, block, or delete unnecessary data; request data portability; obtain information about entities with which we share data; and withdraw consent. You also have the right to petition against us in relation to your data before the national data-protection authority, the ANPD (Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados), under LGPD Article 18. Contact privacy@kanetik.com to exercise these rights.
